First afternoon match of the season and that too up against former champions Leopards had all the making of big match. Once again Vikas lost the toss making it 0-3 in the season and was put on to field first on a hot and sunny afternoon.

Garlen and Nathan started with the new ball without giving any extras.  Rizwan the fresh face of Hot Dogs was the first change but poor umpiring did not give him early break through. Still he ensured 2 wickets in his 3rd over. Karthick proved once again lucky for Hot Dogs by breaking the partnership very first ball he bowled. The batsman hit his own wicket when he was pushed on the back foot. Vinay was the pick of the bowler. Though bowling with a painful shoulder he just gave 16 runs in his 5 overs taking 2 wickets. Rak went for few runs but took one important wicket in his first over. Fine batting by Biplove & Manish, some poor umpiring and a day off on the field for Hot Dogs ensured the opponent went pass 200. Target set was 204.

Hot Dogs innings was started in style by Vinay and Nick. Nick took good advantage of this promotion to top order and was batting fine until the same umpire judged him LBW for a ball missing leg stump. Vinay also was judged caught behind for a ball which brushed his pads. Once again poor Umpiring took toll on us and we were in deep trouble after a good start. Gavin came in for some consolation but was bowled out from the leg side from Usman. Bowl did seem like angled back to the stumps somehow. Rizwan came batted nicely and was middling the ball to his best. He went on to score 30 before he was caught & bowled by Tahir. Vikas, Manoj and Karthick could not add much to the total and fell cheaply.  Garlen came to rescue holding his finger full in blood. He reminded us the passion with which Anil Kumble came on to the field to bowl with his broken jaws in May 2002 in Antigua. He did promise the captain to come good with bat and he did score fantastic 42 not out to get some pride chasing. At one time when Garlen was batting with Nathan it did put the opposition in worry but eventually Nathan could not stay till the end. Faisal and Rak could not add much to the score and the innings finished at 165.

We cannot completely put the blame on umpiring for our loss. We did bowl in right areas but did not back with good fielding and catching. This could be one of the main reasons for our loss. And also the batsmen were not successful in putting up a partnership. So we will take all the negatives and try to work on it in the nets and will put our best foot forward against the Bashers in the next match.
