Opposition score:
225 after 30 overs

Nice and clear conditions for cricket were just not expected from the Sunday’s weather prediction, but what was in offering was perfect weather for cricket.

With a new looking Hotdogs Div2 team we reached SRFC ground well before time for some warm up.

Vikas won the toss and elected to bowl first as on paper bowling department did look quite stronger.

Nathan bowled the first over a little expensive but came back quite well with conceding just 3 & 4 runs in his 3rd and 4th over. Garlen shared the new bowl with Nathan who also proved to be expensive and unlucky too with couple of boundaries in his first two overs. He came back brilliantly in the 29th over of the match by just conceding 5 runs at the depth of the innings.

When the openers were looking settled in came the first change in the form of Faisal who spun the oppositions head with his clever bowling. He was the pick of the bowler and bowled his quota of 6 over’s in a stretch by just conceding 22 runs and taking 2 important wickets.

Second change brought back some fast bowling in offering; Amit who bowled with brilliant pace but lacked enough luck and got some beating from the opposition. He also conceded few wide and bye runs which went past keeper couple of time. He was also unlucky on one of the occasion when one of the catch went in between keeper and first slip. Rak came in as the next change with his flighted leg spin and was priced with the wicket of the opener very second ball of his over. Garlen took a good catch standing in deep mid-off position. Rak finished 2-36 in his spell of 5 overs. Karthik came as the 6th bowler who could not restrict the opposition. Gavin was also tried as slow bowling option but went for some runs in his spell of 4 over’s. Gavin did a good job helping the captain setting field for the team.

At the end of 30 over’s Devils Digital had scored 225 which included a big chunk in the form of extras.

With the big chase in mind Vikas and Manoj opened the batting but were tied down tightly by the pace attack of the opponents. Cramps forced Manoj to ask for a runner. Venki ran for Manoj until he got run out while running a quick single. Next came in Gavin who started with some solid defensive strokes. Vikas got caught in the deep trying to accelerate the innings scoring 14 runs. Gavin did a fantastic job in steadying the innings. Gavin hit couple of boundaries and a six in his 33 runs before getting out while accelerating the run. Johnny came in and did some consolidating stuff but fell for a flighted ball from Bhasker and got stumped.

Venki also fell trying to accelerate the run rate and got bowled by Bhasker. Faisal, Karthik, Garlen and Amit all came in and got out trying to speed up the run rate which was going beyond limit at the end. Garlen scored few runs before getting stumped. Time was not in our hands as we had next match up on us and we had to stop the play after completion of 24th over. We scored 115 at the end of 24th over by which we were requiring to score 110 runs in 6 over’s which did look really tall.

Looking at the remaining score and by the virtue of the game Devils Digital won the match and Bhasker was judged Man of the Match for scoring 55 runs and taking 5 wickets. Please find the score card at the bottom.

As it was our first game of the season, it was a good result for us, despite being asked to stop short of being bowled our full 30 over’s. We have many positives to take from this game, and in this mindset we are happy to have had our opening fixture of the season with you all.

If we look at the technical side of things, the following will be things we can think of in the meantime:

    slow overrate
Bowling line ( lot of extras we conceded)
    catches in the field
    faster run rate when batting

We can also take positives from the way we played on field together. Even though we were a completely fresh bunch of guys we played as a group/team.

We also want each player to learn how to score which will help the team when we are batting. Also team needs to seat together when we are not fielding. This will make communication easy and also will help in planning things. Everything on the field is required to be done with a team effort. We did a good job last week and expect the same kind of team work continues throughout the season and ahead.

We trust everyone will remain in good spirits and get good rest. Training happens on Tuesday evenings for those who can make it to Jing ‘an Temple and in Tonji University on Saturday's. Details will be mailed prior to particular sessions.
